Elden Ring Player Beats Game Without Walking

3.8
An Elden Ring fan who appears to believe the video game is not hard enough has managed to beat the soulslike without walking a single step. Famously known for being a particularly hard game, Elden Ring is considered a spiritual successor of the Souls series, a series of video games that popularized a type of gameplay that is particularly punishing.

Every recent game from developer FromSoftware is known for its difficulty, with players usually alternating between binge gaming and rage-quitting in frustration over their difficulty. Elden Ring is no different, as FromSoftware's challenging gameplay style remains intact with its latest release. However, after having invested a couple of hundreds of hours into a game and mastereing its mechanics, it can start to feel a bit easy, which leads to veteran fans imposing seemingly ridiculous handicaps on themselves just to increase the difficulty.

This seems to be the case for YouTuber and hardcore Elden Ring fan ymfah, who beat video game without the use of the left stick or directional pad. Instead of walking or running, ymfah relied on the light attack and quickstep actions to move around The Lands Between, aiming a ranged weapon to turn around.

While resolving the issue of travel with this trick, ymfah still had to face every battle without the ability to efficiently direct their character. This is why they had to resort to using Elden Ring buffs, potions, and summons of every type. They were also forced to scavenge through the game world in search of resources that can make a character build with such a movement impairment effective in combat.

What ymfah and other gamers like him do can be viewed as pointless, strange, or interesting depending on who is viewing the content. However, their deep exploration of the mechanics and gameplay in Elden Ring and other titles can turn out to be beneficial for other fans. This is because, through their dedication to a specific video game, they tend to find bugs, glitches, and gameplay exploits that other wouldn’t, leading developers or even modders to find and create fixes for them. Some players also enjoy breaking their games on purpose, messing around with discoveries like this one.

Whether beating Elden Ring completely without the use of the left stick or directional pad is useful at all or simply ridiculous remains to be seen. Whatever the case, what is certain is that ymfah’s absurd achievement is an incredible feat, even if a highly superfluous one.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
