Counter-Strike 2 Will Reportedly Be Launched As Soon As This Month

Veteran journalist and esports broadcaster Richard Lewis recently shared a new report about Counter-Strike 2, revealing that some anonymous sources familiar with the game's development have told him Counter-Strike 2 might receive a beta version as soon as later this month.

According to the report, sources have confirmed that Counter-Strike 2 is powered by Source 2 engine. The project has a high priority for Valve, as the team behind the new title includes developers who had already worked on the previous iterations of the series. The sources believe that the existence of Counter-Strike 2 is one of the reasons why Valve has avoided fixing some of the major CS:GO issues in recent years. "The big priority is getting this out and then polishing it, fixing any bugs, and bringing it up to the level people expect from CS," says the anonymous source.

As the game will use a new engine, we can expect more graphical improvements as well as better animations and optimization, but it remains unknown how much it will affect players with a low-end PC. Aside from the game itself, sources have confirmed that Counter-Strike 2 will use new servers with a tick rate of 128. This will put the game right next to Valorant, which is currently the only competitive multiplayer shooter that uses servers capable of a 128-tick rate on official matchmaking. In short, the tick rate refers to the number of times that servers gather info from players, process them, and send them back to players in one second.

Sources claim that Counter-Strike 2 has already been tested by a group of players who traveled to Seattle to play the game and provide feedback at the official Valve headquarters. The new title is said to feature an improved matchmaking system with more options for an esports experience, making the need for third-party applications like FACEIT far less compared to CS:GO. However, this improvement will not be ready for beta testing.

Currently, Valorant is preparing to launch the beta version of Premier mode, which is a squad-based matchmaking system for players to have an esports experience at home while participating in region-wide tournaments.

Keep in mind that all the information above about Counter-Strike 2 should be taken with a grain of salt until official approval arrives from Valve.
