Microsoft retires Zune.net; redirects to Xbox.com

4.7
On Tuesday, Microsoft replaced the Zune Music service on the Xbox 360 game console with Xbox Music. Xbox Music will also be available for Windows 8 and Windows RT devices, as well as Windows Phone smartphones. With the launch of Xbox Music comes the death of another well known brand at Microsoft, Zune.

As of this week, visitors who head to Zune.net will find that they will be redirected to a page on Microsoft's Xbox.com website. The page has a long FAQ that describes the transition from Zune Music to Xbox Music. As we reported earlier this week, Windows 7 users will still be able to download and use the Zune Music client.

Users who are already subscribed to the Zune Music Pass service are told by Microsoft that they "... will automatically become Xbox Music Pass customers and will have access to everything they love about Zune and more." However, the FAQ makes a point to state that Windows 7 users won't get all of the features available for Xbox Music. It says, " ... to enjoy the enhanced features and full benefits, an Xbox Music Pass must be enjoyed on Windows 8 PC's and tablets, Windows Phone 8 devices, and Xbox 360."
