Wii U voice chat sounds pretty complicated

4.6
Nintendo is approaching voice chat on Wii U from a very ... odd angle. Select games will support voice chat via third-party, officially licensed headsets plugged into the WiiPad's headphone jack, but voice chat will not be standard across all games or even the system itself. Even though the WiiPad has a built-in microphone, it can't be used for voice chat.

Things get a bit more complicated when you enter the Pro Controller into the mix. The Pro Controller doesn't even have a headphone jack, so for a game like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, players will need to plug their headset into the WiiPad and set it next to them while they play with the Pro Controller.

So far the only games listed to support in-game voice chat are Assassin's Creed 3, Mass Effect 3 and Black Ops 2. Nintendo has yet to announce voice chat support for any further games, never mind detailed plans of the Wii U's online suite.

I hope that the WII U manages not to fail, but I doubt it

I have faith in the WiiU to be honest.

It probably is. I feel bad for any poor SOB who wastes their money on the Wii U

This sounds horrible, hopefully they'll come up with something better than that. I don't understand why they would have a built in mic that can't be used for voice chat?

L33t-Ninja-Much nintedo needs to be less complicated its so annoying

I agree but its not even worth it so why try? It would be nice if wii, ps3, oc, xbox people could all play together one day...

Why didn't they design their own pro controller with headphone jack? So many issues and it's not even out yet :/

This seems like a pretty big design flaw... The worst part is, it's too late to fix, they will probably make changes once they make a "black/red console" or special edition console or whatever they will call it.

- WiiPad with built-in mic yet unable to be used for voice chat?
- The pro controller has no headphone jack so the person needs to plug their headset into the Pad?

Nintendo are just loosing the plot altogether I swear.
