Microsoft Points starting to be phased out

3.9
Microsoft has begun removing its Points system as a method of payment for the more traditional real-world cash, which includes the official pricing of applications. This changes the way that users will pay for applications on Windows 8, as prior to an update, the point system was still very much active.

While some may like the point system, it has been widely used for Xbox Live and the Zune Marketplace to buy various forms of media and applications. Roughly 80 Microsoft Points is a dollar. However, in newer Windows 8 builds, applications and media can be paid for on a credit card, with the Microsoft Point system being used as a second option.

As for now, we can confirm that Xbox Live is still using the Microsoft point system as a method of payment, however, we could see things change when Microsoft release the new dashboard update. We’ll keep you posted if we learn more about this.

thunderxl It should be 1 dollar is 100 points so 1600 is 16 bucks.
They have to make it complicated on purpose.

Yeah, I like that idea. :)

well i like this and dislike it i mean now lobbies and prestige lobbies and everything will now have to be paid for in Paypal not Microsoft this also lowers the scamming though as well and i also dislike putting my credit card on my account so there really is no winning

I like this concept, MSP is too complicated, I hate having leftover MSP and nothing to spend it on, If I had leftover money I have lots to spend it on.

guys it clearly says msp will be a second option so dont worry.also if for some reason msp does go away, just get a prepaid visa card(the giftcard kind) and use that as the credit card,if you get hacked you will only lose that amount.ps. if you buy something and that cARD is out of money,ms will sometimes give you what you bought before realizing it was out,i got 2 months free that way.

I hope they just get rid of them completely. Also it's ridiculous when they make you pay 10 dollars to change your name when they have made over 1 billion off of Xbox alone.

Their is no reason why they should remove it...
