Notch attacks Windows 8 - refuses to port Minecraft

4.5
Outspoken Mojang co-founder Markus Persson has launched a scathing attack on Windows 8.

In what is the latest notorious Tweet from the Minecraft creator, Persson told his followers: "Got an email from Microsoft wanting to help 'certify' Minecraft for Windows 8. I told them to stop trying to ruin the PC as an open platform".
At the time of publishing, the message has been retweeted more than 1,300 times.

Persson said he would "rather have Minecraft not run on Windows 8 at all than to play along. Maybe we can convince a few people not to switch to Windows 8 that way".

Microsoft has declined to comment on matters regarding Windows 8.

Persson's statement comes in the wake of assurances by Blizzard Entertainment that the company would support Microsoft's new operating system.

Most vocal against Windows 8 is Valve co-founder Gabe Newell. In July, Newell triggered the debate by declaring Windows 8 "a catastrophe" for people working in the PC space.

It is believed that Newell's specific concern is that the new OS could lead to content update filtering by Microsoft, which in turn could bottle-neck updates on platforms such as Steam.
