Sonic Frontiers Xbox Series S 60FPS Mode Hidden In Xbox Settings

4.8
Sonic Frontiers was released this week to a fair spread of reviews and player feedback. It hasn't all been good, sadly, as Xbox Series S players are feeling hard done by after finding the game runs at just 30FPS on their console.

The game's listing on the Xbox Store states that Sonic Frontiers for Xbox Series X|S runs at 4K 60FPS. However, only players on Xbox Series X are getting the full experience as intended. Xbox Series S players have found that their version of the game is running at 30FPS instead. There's also no performance mode to be found anywhere in the game's settings, though there is something that players can do to improve their experience with the game.

There is, according to our colleagues over at The Gamer, a fairly simple workaround. The outlet contacted SEGA and received a response detailing how some players may be able to trick the game into running at the higher 60FPS on Xbox Series S, rather than the limited 30FPS.

So, how do you get Sonic Frontiers to run at 60FPS on Xbox Series S? If you're using a 4K TV with your Xbox Series S, you've probably got the display output set to 4K. If you go to the display settings and change the display output the 1080p, and then start Sonic Frontiers, it should result in the game running at 60FPS.

Obviously, this isn't ideal and doesn't scream "next-gen" but it is a solution, at least. SEGA has also confirmed that the game's developer is aware of the Xbox Series S issue and is actively working to fix the problem. Hopefully, this means an update is in the works and will be released soon. For now, though, players will have to make do with the display setting workaround. Just remember to switch the display output back to 4K before going back to your video streaming apps, otherwise, you won't get the full 4K image.

Despite this particular issue, Sonic Frontier has managed to score well in popular publications, including our positive review. Our in-house Sonic fan Dean James took the new game for a spin and found the transition to an open world was just what Sonic needed to reinvent the series.
