Red Dead Online Stadia Player Won't Lose Their 6,000 Hour Save

3.7
A dedicated Red Dead Online player who has amassed a staggering 6,000 hours in Rockstar's open world western game no longer has to worry about losing their save file when Google Stadia shuts down. Following months of rumors about the cloud gaming platform's demise, Google finally confirmed that it would be shutting down its Stadia service, with plans to take it completely offline starting January 18, 2023.

Part of the reason why Google Stadia is shutting down is due to a lack of interest in the service. Not many people utilized Google Stadia, but there were some who actually did spend a great deal of time using it. One such individual is known on Twitter as ItsColourTV, and they went viral after expressing their dismay that they were in danger of losing their 6,000 hour Red Dead Online save once the Stadia shut down happens.

ItsColourTV has now offered an update on their situation. Rockstar Games reached out to them and confirmed that all Red Dead Online players who played the Stadia version within 30 days of Stadia confirming the service's end date will be able to carry over their progress to PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One. This will include the transfer of any gold bars, XP, role XP, and role tokens. Those interested in transferring their Red Dead Online Stadia progress will need to make their Rockstar Social Club account is linked, and they will then have to reach out to Rockstar Support.

This is definitely good news for Red Dead Online Stadia players in danger of losing all their progress, but now they will have to pick another platform to play the game on. This will require them to purchase a new copy of Red Dead Online, which is available as a standalone purchase for $19.99. However, RDO is currently available at a discount through the latest PlayStation Store sale, so those that want to get the PS4 version can get it for just $9.99 if they act fast enough.

Rockstar isn't the only company who has stepped up to help Stadia players who are being burned by the shutdown. Ubisoft is helping Stadia players transfer their Ubisoft-published titles to PC, so Stadia gamers can still have access to those games at least.

This won't be an option when it comes to the majority of Stadia games, however. But while fans won't be given new copies of games in their library, Google is issuing refunds for all Stadia purchases, most of which should be distributed automatically.

Red Dead Online is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
