Vivendi still looking for a €8 billion buyer for majority stake in Activision

4.6
It appears the negotiations between Microsoft and Vivendi may have come to a close. According to CVG sources, discussions about having Microsoft or Sony as buyers for their steep asking-price “fell through”. There has been little interest in buying Vivendi’s majority stakes it seems, no matter whom they approach. Could this be a sign that they have reached their limit with gamers? Their only big titles now is the Call of Duty series, World of Warcraft, and Skylanders. All of which are not nearly enough to assume the risk of ownership it seems.

Vivendi has been looking for options on how to get rid of their €14 billion debt, and may now have to consider looking internally for the buyer. But even if they are able to pass along the rights, would it even matter? One doesn’t have to look at too many blogs to see that fans are distancing themselves from the company for a variety of reasons. Last month it was reported that WOW lost more than 1 million subscribers, and one can only wonder if games like Diablo III are the cause. Has Activision Blizzard suffered an ill-fate of putting all their eggs in one basket? Do fans feel that they’re getting the same regurgitated product, just with different covers?

Let us know what you think in our comments section! Is Activision Blizzard even worth saving? Can some brave new soul enter the stage with some fresh ideas and bring you back? More on this as it develops.
