Need For Speed Unbound Shows Off Dazzling Effects In New Trailer

4.4
Via the franchise's official Twitter account, the developers behind Need for Speed Unbound revealed some more gameplay for the upcoming street racing title, specifically showing off the illustrated effects you can add to your driving experience. The effects include animated smoke that comes off your tires, as well as various frantic graffiti-like animations that pop out around your car depending on the situation.

The illustrations look detailed and very stylized, much in tune with the animated cutscenes found in the game's first trailer. However, it would seem that the game's account was getting many inquiries about turning them off. In a reply, the Need for Speed account wrote, "Yes, you can turn the effects off. In fact, you can choose to never put them on in the first place. Just like any other part of a car."

When it announced yesterday that this trailer was coming, it proclaimed that the question everyone had been asking would finally be answered. In a later tweet, Need for Speed's Twitter continued to write about a "really obvious [question] that people ask like every second." Some assumed that it was referring to Toyota cars. The game's website lists over 140 cars for the upcoming game, however, it has no models from Toyota.

That question is still a mystery, and it could be that even the developers themselves don't have an answer to it. The official Need for Speed account has resorted to mentioning the Toyota account on Twitter, joking that it wishes Toyota would reply to its messages so they can "be a family again." There was even an interaction with the Forza Horizon account that conspicuously decided to upload a post today showing off the Toyota Supra in their game.

Another important tidbit is that the Need for Speed account later made an addendum to its previous confirmation, stating that the "Basic Tail Smoke and Trail Lights" effects can't be disabled, however, everything else can. Those two effects are quite minor, so players that prefer a more realistic take on the street racing genre can still customize the game to a desirable state. This only makes sense, as one of Need for Speed's main draws is being able to customize how your car looks as you drive it.

Need for Speed Unbound releases on December 2, 2022, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
