Players can now link their PlayStation Network and Steam accounts

Players can now link their PlayStation Network and Steam accounts.

The first game that allows players to do this is Marvel’s Spider-Man, which today received a patch which added the feature.

Evidence of planned connectivity between the PlayStation Network and the PC versions of Sony‘s games was discovered earlier this year, but it’s only become official with today’s update.

A new registration page on the PlayStation website which allows players to make the connection between their accounts is also now live.

“Link your Steam Account to PlayStation Network to receive unlocks in this and other PlayStation Studios games,” the web page reads.

“You will also receive the latest news, updates and offers from PlayStation Studios games on PC or PlayStation platforms. Register by creating a Sony account for PlayStation Network, or by signing in with your existing Sony account and password.

“For new accounts, you may opt-in for email and console messages when creating your account. For existing accounts, opt-in for messages via the ‘Notifications’ tab in your Account settings.”

Earlier this year, files referencing this kind of connectivity were found in Marvel’s Spider-Man. Game files contained multiple references to “PSNAccountLinked” and “PSNLinkingEntitlements”.

It’s currently unclear if Sony’s other PC releases will be updated with similar functionality, but notably, the image on the PlayStation PC registration site depicts the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection, which comes to PC later this month, as well as God of War and Days Gone, which previously released for PC.

PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst recently said Sony’s future console games will have to wait “at least a year” before coming to PC, aside from live service titles.

Sony’s sixth PC title, Spider-Man Remastered, was released in August. It will be followed by PC ports of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection later in the year.

The traditionally console-focused company expects half of its annual releases to be on PC and mobile by 2025.
