PUBG is Crossing Over With Dead by Daylight

4.5
Krafton is officially announcing a Halloween crossover event for PUBG Battlegrounds. It's partnering with Behaviour Interactive to bring the asymmetric horror game Dead by Daylight into the battle royale. As far as crossovers go, partnering with an entirely different game and one that may even be a competitive live service product is a surprising choice. When it comes to optimal picks for a Halloween collaboration event, though, PUBG Battlegrounds could do worse.

For those unfamiliar, Dead by Daylight is a competitive asymmetric multiplayer game that has one powerful Killer face off against four Survivors as they seek to escape a nightmarish arena. Since its release in 2016, Behaviour has introduced over 15 original Killers to the game, as well as crossing over with other properties for over 10 more Killers. Due to licensing restrictions, PUBG Battlegrounds players should expect the crossover to feature solely original Dead by Daylight characters.

The crossover event for PUBG Battlegrounds will feature a variety of Dead by Daylight content. Killer cosmetics are a given, with four full costumes, four additional masks, three backpack skins, a new pan skin, and a nameplate available for purchase. Unfortunately, very little in terms of cosmetics will be available to earn through gameplay, but for fans of Halloween with some money to spare, there should be some fun Dead by Daylight content available.

In addition to the premium Dead by Daylight cosmetics, there will also be a special playable event available for the duration of the crossover. The name of the event is Survive the Hunt and, befitting Dead by Daylight, it's a hide-and-seek experience. Each match will feature one Killer and three Survivors from Dead by Daylight, with Survivors having to repair Generators and avoid detection in order to escape before they're killed.

Between October 21 and November 7, PUBG Battlegrounds players can play Survive the Hunt to earn rewards. One round earns a Dwight Unknown Lone Survivor Outfit, five rounds earn a Dead by Daylight spray, and ten kills as a Killer will reward a free Nurse mask based on one of Dead by Daylight's most notorious villains. The Dead by Daylight cosmetics will be available from around October 20 through December 7.

As far as Halloween events go, partnering with Dead by Daylight for a special event is a very fun idea. It's a shame that there aren't more rewards available to encourage players to participate, but some options are better than none. And if making the event heavily monetized was the only way to make the Dead by Daylight collaboration work, then PUBG Battlegrounds will be the better for it.

PUBG Battlegrounds is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
