PlayStation To Invest Further In PC, Mobile, And Live Service Games

4.1
As reported by VGC, Herman Hulst recently confirmed in an interview with Reuters that PlayStation is looking forward to further investing "in areas that will strengthen the expansion on to PC, on to mobile, and into live services," that's definitely an opportunity for the company.

Since the beginning of the new generation of consoles, PlayStation has acquired multiple development studios, including a studio that is solely focused on porting the PlayStation-exclusive titles into PC. Thus far, Sony Interactive Entertainment has launched multiple best-selling PS4 and PS5 titles on PC, including Days Gone, God of War (2018), and Spider-Man Remastered. The Japanese publisher will continue to launch more PC titles this year by delivering Spider-Man Miles Morales, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection. The Last of Us Part 1 Remake is also on its way to arrive at PC on an unannounced date.

Unfortunately, Hulst didn't reveal anything further about the company's plans for expanding its presence in PC and mobile gaming. That being said, we can expect more games to come to PC next year. Also, Sony revealed at some point that it plans to launch 10 live service games until 2026, which we can expect to cover a broader audience than only PlayStation console players, as a possible part of the company's plans to expand onto PC gaming.

A few months earlier, Sony acquired mobile game developer Savage Game Studios, which is supposed to operate under the mobile division of PlayStation, creating on-the-go experiences for existing PlayStation IPs as well as exploring new IPs. Savage Game Studios have already started working on its first project, but the announcement will come when the game is ready.

Recently, data miners dug into the Spider-Man Remastered PC version, discovering some codes that hint at an upcoming PlayStation launcher for PC that will probably include PlayStation titles that are ported to PC. This plan could also include access to PlayStation's subscription services such as PS Plus using cloud streaming.

Currently, God of War Ragnarok is the biggest upcoming launch for PlayStation 5, which has not been confirmed for PC yet, but we can expect it to arrive on Steam in a few years.
