PlayStation Stars May Have A Hidden Fifth Tier

Data miners have allegedly found references to an unannounced fifth tier to PlayStation Stars within the PlayStation app. According to what was found, this fifth tier also seems to be invite-only.

The data miners released what was found on Reddit, quoting, "In an endless sea of stars, it seems like there's nowhere to hide. But you wouldn't be here if you let challenges like that stop you. Welcome to Level 5." The found code has this level labeled as Diamond, and it seemingly can only be reached through invitation. Each level in Stars comes with its own exclusive graphic award and perks of being at that level. The exact perks for level 5 have not been found within the code.

As of now, PlayStation has made no official statement on Tier 5. The full extent of what Tier 5 is and what perks it may include is still to be seen. PlayStation Stars was recently released in Asia and will be released in the US on October 5 and in Europe on October 13.

Playstation Stars was announced back in July of this year as a rewards system for loyal players. At the start, all players begin on Tier 1, and by buying games through the PlayStation store and completing challenges and campaigns, they are able to progress to higher tiers.

With each Tier, you'll receive digital collectibles that can be shown to your friends or seen on your PlayStation profile. Along with these collectibles, you'll be able to earn loyalty points, which can be redeemed for wallet funds, or select PlayStation store products. Joining PlayStation Stars is free, but progressing to higher tiers will require you to buy games through the PlayStation Store.

Following the release in Asia, some rewards for Stars have been met with player backlash. For instance, Tier 4 rewards state a priority in support, giving players in this tier the ability to jump in line for customer support calls. Reaching higher tiers requires money and a wide game library. Players are seeing this as Sony giving their higher-paying customers priority over more casual gamers.

The current state of PlayStation Stars is said to be the groundwork that will be further expanded in the years to come. Whether the secret Diamond Tier even exists and how it may affect the new program are still to be seen.
