Project Cars 2 Removed From Steam Indefinitely

Project Cars 2 has been officially removed from Steam and other digital markets recently, which means you will have no chance to purchase it unless from third-party retailers that sell digital keys.

Slightly Mad Studios, the developer and publisher behind Project Cars 2, confirmed earlier this year that their racing sim would be removed from sale "due to expiring car and track licenses". The expiration of the licenses has led to the removal of Project Cars 2 from Steam on September 21, followed by the removal of the original Project Cars on October 3.

The fact that Slightly Mad Studios is a subsidiary of Codemasters, which in fact operates under Electronic Arts, could probably mean that EA might have decided to stop renewing the liscensing contract for a game that already has a successor.

Despite the fact that Project Cars 3 is currently available on Steam, it has a pretty different approach to the racing genre compared to Project Cars 2. The second iteration was a true racing simulation game, whereas the latest edition is more of a arcade-style racing that a fully realistic experience. As a result, it might make some fans disappointed that the game will no longer be available for sale.

Slightly Mad Studios has not revealed any new projects since the acquisition of Codemasters by Electronic Arts. Project Cars 3 and Project Cars Go are the final releases from the developer. It remains unknown whether Electronic Arts will greenlight another seuqel to the Project Cars series or not, but the latest iteration of the series wasn't as successful as the previous entries.

Electronic Arts is seemingly preparing a new iteration of Need For Speed to launch later this as some sources have already indicated, but thus far, the publisher has not revealed anything regarding the project except for a brief teaser that confirmed its existence.

With F1 22 and Grid Legends already published plus the possible arrival of a new Need For Speed, it seems like EA's catalog for this year is almost fulfilled, which means we should probably wait until next year for a new project from Slightly Mad Studios.
