Xbox720 Durango Devkit Leaked

4.4
Digital Foundry reports a dodgy-looking development kit detailed on a developer forum is the real deal – an authentic Durango, the code name for the next Xbox console.

The site spoke with the source of the leak, who said the dev kits were distributed in February. He detailed the system’s 64-bit architecture as having Intel CPUs and an nVidia graphics card, over 8GB of RAM (although Digital Foundry notes dev kits have more memory than retail consoles). The final hardware is expected to have eight cores, the source said.

It’s apparently a very different set-up to the current Xbox and also contradicts repeat rumours of a deal between Microsoft and AMD; Microsoft and nVidia don’t have a great history, either. That said, Digital Foundry claims development sources agreed Durango is a 64-bit system, and also confirmed the authenticity of the interface seen in the images.

The new Xbox is expected to be announced next year ahead of a holiday 2013 launch; a new PlayStation, codenamed Orbis, is believed to be aiming for a similar schedule.

Intel_2500k
-Cat So is that the Durango? Or is it just hooked up to a monitor via VGA?

If they include VGA on this, than  .

VGA wont bottleneck the GPU in it.

Iglesias "nVidia graphics card," sweet!

Its not nvidia. Its AMD (6670)

TheMightyHutch an 8 core console???? get ready to pay 800 bucks console-****

IBM CPUs aren't like Intel. All the cores are weaker. These CPUs aren't very expensive.

Zerkos I highly doubt it's going to have the specs that are published in this article.

8 Core IBM Power CPU (not sure on model no#) clocked around 3.4-3.7ghz
AMD 6670
8GB RAM.

RevolutionUKMoDz 8gb of ram, which type ddr or GDDR3?

most likely GDDR3

8GB of GPU Memory? You crazy?

Knew this would get leaked eventually.

I believe he's referring to just memory on its own (RAM). And I HIGHLY doubt it's have that much anyways. And as for what GDDR it'll be, most standard (computer) GPUs are GDDR5. So let's hope they update that.

The current Xbox only has 512 MB. The next gen Xbox will more than likely have a 1GB GPU or MAYBE (but highly unlikely) 2 GB GPU. An 8 GB GPU has yet to be manufactured. The highest gig GPU out there is 6 GB (and it's two of them in 1 card) and it hasn't been released yet (I don't think). And regardless, a GPU with that high of specs would be POINTLESS in an Xbox. Even with a game fully maxed out beyond belief it'd still wouldn't use up all the RAM. It'd just basically give you a really high FPS which would be stupid for use on a TV. You'd need a monitor with a really high amount of MHz to take advantage of it else it wouldn't look any different then on any normal TV (FPS wise not graphics wise). What I'm trying to get at here is that whoever said that it'll have 8 gigs of GPU RAM is a ****. The cost of the Xbox would be well over 1 grand rather than $300.

The GPU is a 6670, look it up. GPU RAM (AKA RANDOM ACCESS 'MEMORY') does not influence the FPS of a game as much as the clock speeds. The more VRAM, the higher the res you can play at. Thats the only difference higher RAM will make (and the refresh rate of the monitor). The card with the most memory is the 7970 6gb edition. 8gb on a 6670, I would lol. You would need an 8K monitor to use that ram and even still, you wouldn't be able to run it with the clocks of a 6670.

Str8UPV0lt4G3 .... You know how easy it will be to hack the 720 now with it be basically a computer. Extremely easy

This is an ALPHA kit. It is housed in a PC case with PC components, none of which are made for the Durango. This will not be the design at release. The Xbox 360 Alpha kits were house in G5 cases.

CartmanisPhat Those specs are pretty pathetic considering this is the next generation console.

I don't know what specs are but I want the Xbox 720 to be really great! So far what I've heard of it doesn't seem that good...

It'll be better than 360 thats all what matters.

Yeah I was just hoping for a little better specs. Im sure it will be fine though.

It's going to be better than the 360. The 360 meets all of todays games so I'm sure the next gen console will be fine.
