Xbox CEO Phil Spencer has said that the studio needs to "work to better meet" expectations following the delay of Starfield and Redfall.

Yesterday, a bombshell was dropped on gamers as Bethesda announced that it was delaying two of its biggest titles, Redfall and Starfield, which were scheduled for Summer and Winter of this year respectively. Bethesda Game Studios and Arkane Austin both released statements on the delay, thanking fans for the support and promising more news soon.

Now, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer has released his own statement on the delay of Starfield and Redfall, admitting that the decision was a difficult one and that Xbox needs to work towards better meeting expectations that it sets in the future.

Previously, Starfield had been planned for release on November 11 of this year, while Redfall was planned for a Summer release, although it wasn't given a specific release date. We've barely seen anything for either project so far, with Starfield mostly focusing on behind the scenes concept footage and Redfall only getting the one reveal trailer.

Redfall is perhaps more surprising to see getting delayed as playtests for it were ongoing following its release last year, with some players leaking footage. It was clearly incomplete and needing some more time, but a lot of the concepts were clearly in motion, so seeing it get delayed by more than half a year is a surprise.

Although we aren't getting Redfall or Starfield this year, it has been confirmed that we can still expect to see gameplay footage of the two games at this year's Xbox and Bethesda conference, which should show us what to expect early next year.
