EA wants to make sure Medal of Honor is different than Battlefield

4.8
Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be released later this year, but EA is trying to ensure that the feel, look and gameplay of this new installment won’t be a carbon-copy of their other recent FPS release, Battlefield 3, Attackofthefanboy.com reports.

EA’s Frank Gibeau explains:

“We are very careful that Battlefield and Medal of Honor stay differentiated. There is an inefficiency to having two different brands coming out alternating like that, there is some upside. You don’t have the annualized, sequel fatigue. With Medal of Honor we tried to embrace that the game is real. The multiplayer is different than Battlefield. We’re trying to use a sequencing strategy to keep it as fresh and different as possible.”

The problem for EA is ensuring that the franchises remain unqiue. Medal of Honor fans won’t be happy if they are given a Battlefield clone with different characters and new maps. But EA also needs to take advantage of some of Battlefield’s success by implementing elements of the game that won’t overshadow the “feel” of a Medal of Honor title.

It’s a tricky balance, but it seems like Gibeau is aware of the problem.

That being said, one has to be a little skeptical of this new installment in the Medal of Honor series. The last few entries have been less than spectacular and the footage from this game has not depicted anything particularly intriguing. Gibeau seems pretty optimistic about Warfighter’s ability to revive the Medal of Honor franchise, but I’ll hold my applause until I see the final product.

Same for me! I was very young at the time too!!

I tore up some MoH games in my youth. I must have a dozen of them for the ps2. I really haven't heard that much about them since i've purchased a 360.

Infosec "You dont have the annualized, sequel fatigue"...haha I wonder what series they are referencing *Cough Cough Call of Duty*...I love CoD, but I agree it can get boring sometimes. Either way I will buy all of them and I am looking at picking up this new MoH all though I wasn't a huge fan of the last one.

They were refering to CoD. The funny thing is that they are going to be in the same boat :D. GoW might even end up in similiar circumstances.

Medal of Honor was a great game but very under-rated. I hope this is better and more successful.

Flags Hopefully it turns out good.

I'll also be hoping for that.
