Rumor – Microsoft is Among Potential Activision Buyers

Vevendi, the majority stakeholder of Activision Blizzard, has began “testing the appetite of possible bidders.” Vivendi has a 60 percent stake in the biggest video game publisher, Activision Blizzard. Interestingly, Microsoft’s name has come up in the list of potential new suitors

“Although a formal process has not started, bankers close to Vivendi are sounding out cash-rich trade players, including China’s Tencent and U.S. duo Time Warner and Microsoft, as well as private-equity heavyweights KKR, Providence and Blackstone,” Reuters‘ sources claim.

The French conglomerate’s stake in Activision has an estimated price of 10 billion dollars.

You guys have it all wrong. If COD becomes an xbox exclusive, then anyone who wants to play COD has to first buy an xbox (which is worth much more than 1 copy of the game), buy a copy of any of the cods they want ( And if they want more than one, then they have to buy those too), and then buy a membership to xbox live if they want to play. That will bring in a LOT more money than keeping things the way it is. I mean, you could buy COD for the wii, but who wants to do that?

I will laugh so hard to Ps3 fanboys if this happens

Wow, didn't expect this from Microsoft.

PinkSlime Microsoft buys Activision.

Microsoft makes Call of Duty an Xbox Exclusive. :D

Microsoft **** over Sony! :D

It would pretty much force ps3 CoD players to buy a xbox

System32

Ankoku Wouldn't that make COD xbox only ?

There's no way in hell microsoft would do that. It doesn't take a genius to work out that other consoles besides xbox make up for a hell of a lot of the cod sales. If they took out cod from other platforms then the sales would drop by about 60%
And being the money grabbing company that ms is, they wouldn't do that, it is just pure idiocy.

No sir, Microsoft is a multinational..

Saying that they are about PROFIT, they are NOT going to invest 10 BILLION dollars in a thing to make profit, but only a sad 30% of what's possible..
You REALLY think Microsoft would be stupid enough to minimize profits?!?!

Even though Microsoft can easily afford that, it still is 10 BILLION dollars, and they keep that in mind.

And i am pretty sure they will buy it, CoD itself produces 1-5 BILLION each sequel.
So that also states, to make profit there have to be atleast two more CoD's.
Saying that the CoD series is not long by done.

Contrary to what you seem to believe, Activision doesn't just publish COD (See: Tony Hawk, Prototype, Guitar Hero) . Also Activision Blizzard is not just Activision. As its name suggests it's also Blizzard Entertainment, which in turn means World of Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft.

I think this would be a good thing if it happened, as Microsoft is obviously a company that can provide a substantial financial backing if necessary.

do you guys remember a little xbox exclusive a while back i think it was called oh yeah mass effect and look where it is today
