Valve Designer Says There are “Multiple Games in Development”

4.1
Following the launch of the Steam Deck, Valve released a surprise short called Aperture Desk Job. Set in the Portal universe, it offers a fairly concise and fun experience (though it made sure to clarify that it’s not Portal 3). Considering Valve’s last major release was Half-Life: Alyx in 2020, one has to wonder if the company has plans for any other games.

Speaking to Axios, Valve producer designer Greg Coomer confirms, “There are multiple games in development right now at Valve, and I think they’re pretty exciting ones.” Of course, when we’ll find out and what form they’ll take is still very much up in the air.

Regarding further iterations on the Steam Deck, Valve president Gabe Newell had talked about focusing more on what the platform’s portability could provide. However, Coomer revealed that there isn’t a set plan for how the company wants to upgrade the hardware. “We don’t have a completely ironed-out plan for the cadence of the hardware updates.” It’s currently looking at a rolling update model with “monolithic updates.”

The Steam Deck is only just getting started though, having launched on February 25th and orders shipping to the first batch of reservations on February 28th. It’s available at three price points – $399 for 64 GB eMMC internal storage, $529 for a 256 GB NVMe SSD, and $649 for a 512 GB NVMe SSD.
