Retro Studios Updates Twitter Banner With New Metroid Imagery
It's not a major reveal or announcement, by any means, but Retro Studios did make a recent Metroid-related change to its Twitter profile recently that has fans talking. The official Retro Twitter profile has, for years, featured a very straightforward banner. It was the Retro Studios logo with a black background. That's now changed, however, with the banner now featuring a dark, alien-esque room or hallway with what appears to be Samus standing at its center.
To start, it's important not to read too much into the situation. Retro Studios is already known to be working on the new Metroid Prime game for the Nintendo Switch. It's potentially only over two years into development, which means there could be a significant amount of time yet before Retro is ready to share more about it. This change could simply be a public acknowledgment of Metroid Prime 4's continued development and nothing more.
Fans, obviously, are going to read into the situation a little more deeply. While there's nothing explicit about the banner change implying that more information about Metroid Prime 4 could be forthcoming, this change could hint at Retro planning to something soon. It could be seen as preparation for bigger Metroid Prime 4 reveals in the relatively near future.
Alternatively, the image itself could be the reveal, a cryptic message hidden in what would otherwise seem an innocuous concept art. Perhaps there's more to the location in the image, or more to Samus. Perhaps it isn't Samus at all, or perhaps the shadows imply Metroid Prime 4 will have certain dark or ghostly themes.
If the banner change for Retro's Twitter account confirms anything, it's that Nintendo fans remain very excited for more information about Metroid Prime 4. It's been nearly five years since the game was first announced and there's little more to show for it. It just goes to show how beloved the Metroid Prime trilogy remains and how willing fans are to wait for the game to be done as Retro truly wants.
Metroid Prime 4 remains in development for the Nintendo Switch.
