It Takes Two Sells Five Million Copies

3.7
It Takes Two celebrates another success, as it's now sold over five million copies since its launch last March.

Hazelight Games shared the good news over on Twitter, saying that the team is "absolutely stunned" by the success. This comes just after its big win at The Game Awards last December, which saw it take home the prize for Game of the Year against big hitters such as Deathloop and Metroid Dread.

Sales alone aren't the only measure of It Takes Two's success. The popular platform game has also been available on Xbox Game Pass since November 2021, meaning the true amount of players will be much higher than this.

On top of these, it doesn't count the players who made their way through the game in a duo, using the Friend's Pass system. This allows two players to beat the game together, even if only one of them owns the full version.

Director Josef Fares also commented on the milestone, saying it was "way beyond expectation[s]." In the replies, many thank the devs for creating such an entertaining game.

Sales were likely boosted by a recent 60 percent off sale, as well as the recent win at The Game Awards. It's still 50 percent off on Steam at the time of writing, if you're yet to check it out yourself.

This news isn't the only cause for celebration over at Hazelight Studios. As we reported earlier this week, it was confirmed that It Takes Two is getting a movie adaptation, with the devs teaming up with dj2 Entertainment to make it happen. Fares said at the time that he's feeling confident about the project, seeing the narrative potential in It Takes Two's cast of characters.
