Activision opposes US Xbox ban requested by Motorola

Publisher argues it'd suffer commercial harm in the event of an import ban

Activision Blizzard is one of a number of firms to oppose Motorola Mobility's request to ban the importation of Xbox 360s to the US and cease sales of the console.

Along with companies including Cisco and IBM, which develops and manufactures components for Xbox 360, Activision argues it would "suffer commercial harm" in the event of an import ban, Foss Patents reports.
Motorola, which was recently acquired by Google, claims Xbox 360 infringes on five of the telecommunications company's patents related to "secure wireless communication and transmission of video content between controller devices and game consoles".

Activision said in a submission to the US International Trade Commission that, as "one of the United States' largest video game publishers", it "has expended and continues to expend significant resources to develop video games and accessories specially adapted to operate on Microsoft's Xbox gaming console".

Its all play station tryn to kick the 360 off the throne

They better stall this until the 720 or whatever it's called will be released. Then no one will really care as they will stop producing 360s (for the most part) anyway.

I am glad I have a crapload of consoles. They do this it means big $$$ for me :D

I would die if imports/sales of the xbox360 got banned. There's really no good reason why they should even try this. If they do succeed, they'll be hated by thousands and thousands of americans. Very stupid and ignorant.

There's too many f*cking fanboys on this forum.
They're infringing on another company's intellectual property, now it's either they pay up or the console is getting banned.
All of you ignorant kids should put it in perspective: If you invented or innovated upon something and then got it patented, only to have some other company come in and make hundreds of millions of dollars off of a product that uses your patents, you'd be pissed.
@All the people saying "Shitty Motorola": Google just bought Motorola for $13 BILLION. The world's biggest manufacturer of set top boxes and third-fourth largest manufacturer of phones/tablets is by no means sh*t.

JamesKent Activision don't care about the Xbox not being available in the US...

What they care about is that if Xbox's are no longer being sold in the US, they wont be raking in the cash from their next Call of Duty title.

Greedy b*stards...

not to mention most users are from the US, no surprise.

It's called business not greed. I'd be pretty pissed if I found out one of my major selling products is going to be banned on a certain platform in the country it makes the most money in.
agreed
Not greed
It's what keeps this country afloat
Motorola is a Nothing
