NVIDIA announces GeForce GTX 690 dual graphics card

4.7
NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has announced the company's newest flagship graphics card, the GeForce GTX 690, in his keynote address at the NVIDIA Game Festival in China. The GTX 690 is powered by dual Kepler-based GPUs, which will surely make it the fastest card on the market when it's released on May 3. The announcement follows NVIDIA's "it's coming" teaser campaign that the company's been promoting in recent weeks.

NVIDIA provided further information about the card in a press release, in which it also provided images of the card. According to an article on NVIDIA's website, the GTX 690 is powered by 3,072 CUDA cores running at a base clock rate of 915 MHz and a boosted clock rate of 1019 MHz. The card will have a total of 4GB of 512-bit GDDR5 RAM.

Performance provided by the GTX 690 will nearly double that of the GTX 680 in some games, according to benchmarks provided by NVIDIA in its press release. While the GTX 680 ran Crysis 2's ultra settings at 32.3 fps, the GTX 690 ran the same settings at 57.8 fps. In Dirt 3 (run at 8xAA/16xA), the GTX 680 scored 62.3 fps while the GTX provided 111.2 fps. NVIDIA ran all of its benchmarks at a resolution of 2,500 x 1,600. On average, the card sees a 75% increase in performance over the GTX 680, according to NVIDIA's benchmarks. Additional benchmark information can be seen on NVIDIA's website.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 will be released in limited quantities on May 3 from NVIDIA, with a wider release set for May 7 that will include NVIDIA partners ASUS, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Inno3D, MSI, Palit and Zotac. The card will have an expected price tag of $999.

Better off buying 2 680's, then you get 4GB of dedicated VRAM.

VeteranGaming this might be put in a new console isnt there a video preview of what the graphics are like?
dude this card costs almost 4x more than the current xbox and ps3

it doesn't have to be the card, your paying $1000 for the cooling, 4gb GDDR5 VRAM, and the fancy pcb. They could easily put keplar based GPU's into a console plus they would probably use the lower quality chips like that of say a low quality card like a gtx 630 or something. Not sure if they have released the low end 600 series cards like that yet but when they do those GPU's could be in a console.

Are you kidding? You must not be too acknowledgable of GPU's as the Xbox will not and cannot have a nVidea GPU. (They're in bed with AMD, contract.) GTX 630 is a mobile (laptop) GPU and that is a possibility if it was possible. The 720 will be expensive. I'm so boss, I have a 680. It's amazing.

really you must be the one who doesn't understand GPU's. For one I never said anything about them having a nvidea GPU I was replying to the other poster saying that it is possible to have a "Keplar" in a console and not costing $1000. Also there is no such thing as a gtx 630 yet and I know because I looked after I posted plus if it was a mobile GPU it would be a 630m they make gtx 520-590 for pc's so it will be the same for the 600 series once they release them.

This is not gonna be put in the xbox, very funny lol.

I have a GTX 680 which is basically a 690 but 1/2 of it. a 690 is two 680 in one case. Very cool! The term is "dual-gpu". Who am I kidding you r probably 5 and dont care. Why does TTG post this shit? I mean I live for GPU's and technology and am far more comprehend able than you in Tech, but TTG (the TECH game) is more like the XBOX game. Xbox is gay.
