The Game Awards 2021 will be an in-person event this December

The Game Awards 2021 will take place on Thursday, December 9, it has been announced.

The in-person event will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and be live streamed around the world.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, last year’s show was not filmed in front of a live audience.

For the first time, The Game Awards expanded beyond Los Angeles, with 2020’s edition streamed from studios in London and Tokyo, in addition to California.

Hosted by producer Geoff Keighley, it included a dozen or so brand-new game announcements alongside many more new trailers and musical performances.

The star-studded show featured appearances from Keanu Reeves, Christopher Nolan, Gal Gadot, Tom Holland, Brie Larson, John David Washington, Reggie Fils-Aime, Nolan North, Troy Baker and more.

New games announced at the event included Perfect Dark from The Initiative, Dead Space creator Glen Schofield’s latest horror title, The Callisto Protocol, and an Ark: Survival Evolved sequel starring Vin Diesel.
BioWare also released the first teaser trailer for the new Mass Effect game and offered a fresh look at its next Dragon Age title, while Turtle Rock Studios showed off its Left 4 Dead spiritual successor Back 4 Blood.

The Last of Us Part 2 was the big winner at The Game Awards 2020, taking home seven of the 10 prizes it was nominated for.

They included Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Audio Design, Best Performance, Best Action/Adventure, and the inaugural Innovation in Accessibility award, which recognises developers who are pushing the medium forward in terms of reach.

I'm glad they're doing an in-person this year. I hope it continues with other upcoming events
