Modern Warfare 3 – Panic Knifing and Extreme Conditioning Are Here To Stay

4.4
Not a big fan of being “panic knifed” in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3? Get used to it. Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling, responds to fans’ dislike of the current knifing system and the state of the Extreme Conditioning perk.

If you’re using the standard button layout for Modern Warfare 3, then you know the swing of your blade is only a tiny right thumb click away (on consoles) from downing your enemy in one foul swoop. This reflex tends to be the first reaction of one who finds themselves in a tricky situation all of a sudden. Hence the term, “panic knifing”. This has been a part of the Call of Duty franchise for ages now. But more and more, it seems to be receiving a lot of “hate” from the Call of Duty community. Many see it as a “cheap” and “easy” way to get kills. To add insult to injury, it definitely isn’t fun being knifed after having shot your enemy a couple of times first. In a virtual argument with fans on Twitter, Robert Bowling shares his view on the infamous “panic knife”.

“The lesson here is 1) Get a headshot at that range. – or – 2) Don’t get so close to your enemy,” Bowling argued. He also stresses caution when turning corners to avoid being knifed. “Of course you’ll get stabbed if you run into someone. Thats the risk of not taking your time and not checking your corners.” Obviously, Bowling is ‘for’ the current system of knifing.

Bowling was also recently asked numerous times if anything is going to be done about the Extreme Conditioning perk, which currently allows players to sprint for longer periods of time. Past iterations of this perk allowed players to sprint indefinitely. When asked if Infinity Ward would consider changing the perk back to Marathon, Bowling answered, “No. We purposely used Extreme Conditioning rather than Marathon…” As for any other sort of tweaks, Bowling stated, “nothing planned. Extreme Conditioning is fine as is, in my opinion.”

On a minor note, Bowling was also asked if shotguns would ever be seeing any further tweaks since the recent patch 1.08 as some users declare them to still be underpowered. He replied, “anything’s possible, but no plans currently.”

Hawks484 Everyone at IW has got to have been dropped on their heads or been born a d0ucheb@g to not realize that the community is the group of people who play the game and are supposed to provide feedback on how the game plays. And it's IW job to actually consider what the people say and realize that they actually, will probably, know what they're talking about since they actually play the game enough to spot the problems.

Result:
Treyarch > IW

Treyarch actually listens to the community.

LMFAO do you not understand what "here to stay" means its not who the developer is, panic knifing and the way extreme conditioning is, those features are what are not going to change not because of the community, but because both developers feel like that it should stay the way it has always been. Besides that, Treyarch might listen but when they fix things half the time the "fixs" are half assed and don't work well, all of the previous cods wouldn't have a **** load of problems post-launch if they just had good testing and maybe a beta that they can study but Activision is full of cheap as **** so they wont let them and also IW is definetly better, when they try they make amazing games Cod 2 was way better than Cod 3 and Cod 4 was way better than WaW, the reason being is because they wanted to make those games and not forced to make them and Treyarch just seems better because they are second and you want to blame IW for everything because they made the games first. In the end IW > Treyarch. Now if they just gave IW the whole cod lisence and gave Treyarch a break to make zombie games they would be equal.
Either way people like you and me buy these games and they think that means its a good game. but when you actually play then it's realized that the game is awful because the developers didn't think that having a 3rd party review it or a beta would be a good idea. I admit both developers suck and i probably shouldn't buy the next game, but one has to realize, especially the developers, that the majority of people should enjoy the game and be able to have input on the game so that they can enjoy it. At the very least make sure the game has no bugs or glitches before mass production of the game. I hate the fact that they both say they will listen to the community in the next game and put stuff in that was suggested, then take it out claiming "balancing issues" yet the games balance is screwed up enough any ways and yet it gets approved and sold. Corporate America at its worst!
ANYWAYS, rant over :)

you say we buy the game for the same reason? well i dont know about that considering i buy cod games for the campaign and not the multiplayer i will always buy them because of that if the multiplayer is decent i will keep the game but mw3 is starting to disappoint so im considering selling it back to gamestop. so yeah not everyone buys cod for the mp, i would suggest getting that thought way out of your head
You seem to bring up one issue that i didn't address after another, i thought we were just talking about the multiplayer. i never said that spec ops, zombies, or the campaign is bad. I just brought up the point of neglect that the multiplayer experiences. Please, continue to provide that constructive criticism of yours!

We were talking about the multiplayer but you brought up why people buy cod and I am not one of those people, that is all.

The only BS complaint I have about knife is how unreliable it is. I've sometimes knifed at people who werent looking at me in order to be quiet or save bullets and the knife missed, then they turned and killed me, its dumb.

The other thing that pisses me off is when you run by someone and they knife and you get killed even though in their screen no part of your body is present.

The main reason id use extreme conditioning is if i felt like smashing on my thumbstick less. Unlimited sprint doesn't really seem unreasonable considering that there is no 'lightweight' anymore.

yeah i don't know why people complain about this???
its like yeah knifing is dumb! but its apart of the game and has been for years!!!
im a tactical player and i hate it!
but im not gonna complain about it! its how the game was made and its here to stay! **** treyarch for trying to change that! they are a horrib;e COD company and should be banned for listening to fans and trying to change the game! when they dont know the first thing about COD! all the cod games by them suck! graphics suck,, guns suck,, the only thing good is ZOMBIEZ and thats the only thing they have thats good! sorry for anyone who gets offened but its my opinion! and a true fact!

Extreme Conditioning is so annoying. They make shotguns and SMGs at a slight disadvantage because they have a harder time getting around because of sprint blocks. Panic knifing is only annoying because the lunging. And shotguns are under-powered a bit. Model 1887 needs to be tweaked badly and given some attachments. The KSG-12 also needs a wider spread of shot to increase the killbox
