Microsoft files complaint over fake Halo 4 beta domain

4.8
Believe it or not, there are evil people on the Internet who use misinformation and deception to steal from the innocent and well-meaning. We know, we couldn't believe it either, but it's the truth, as recently demonstrated by an outbreak of fake Halo 4 beta test invites.

343 Industries' creative director David Ellis was quick to debunk the bogus site, but the URL used in the phishing scam (halo4beta dot net) is still out there, tempting fate with its Halo-oriented name and un-Microsoftness. Who knows what nefarious maleficence the domain could be used for if left in the wild, so Microsoft has filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum in order to have the domain name transferred to its ownership.

In situations like this, the company filing the complaint has to be able to prove that the domain in question was registered maliciously in order for the Forum to decide in its favor. Under the circumstances, we feel like global fraud will probably be malicious enough to sway things in Microsoft's favor.

xbox360_2010 well i wondered how long it would take for this to happen, people shouldn't be surprised by the lengths people go 2 scam people. do these people have nothing better to do with there lives then do this.
you would be suprized at the lengths people go to take advantage of kids and steal from them. Most of the time it's young kids with there parents money who fall for these dumb things though. It's actually extremely easy to get a kid to give up his information for something he thinks he can get, especially if he thinks that he is getting something cool or will have it before everyone else.

I agree though these people are a joke and deserve to be charged with a crime. That way they just don't do it the next chance they get. Taking advantage of people who don't know any better is really sad.

ODST Lol I saw "nefarious maleficence" and i said, "these kids won't understand this. haha, sucks to be a child who can't understand words as simple as these.
if you can't understand this then you should not be on this site! I hate that there are kids who lie about there age to make an account! It's so obvious when kids are young, like they can't even spell and never have proper grammar! They should ban the kids who make posts that you can't even understand!

If you try to get onto it now it says "Account Suspended" looks like it's done.
