Rumour: Microsoft Points to be scrapped by end of 2012

4.3
The Microsoft’s Points system, used for Xbox Live Marketplace and other Microsoft marketplaces, is set to be abolished by the end of the year, according to a Inside Mobile Apps report. The site reckons that local, real-world currency will replace points. Microsoft only uses real-life money for when games are bought from Games on Demand, although the option is available to also buy them with Microsoft Points.

Microsoft Points has been around the release of Xbox 360 in 2005, and has also been around for other storefronts including Zune Marketplace, Games for Windows Live and Windows Phone 7.

I already hate their credit card system enough!

I can't remove the credit card I have on there without putting another on. Why?

Luckily I had an empty VISA prepaid hanging around ;)

Anyways, Bad Idea. Please, Please, Please don't do this.

Oklahoma- why would they what if i dont have a credit card

they would probly sell codes in store with values of 5 10 20 and so on, then you add that cash value to your account.
im sure MS will add something like this its not like they would want to lose out on money

LittlePony Whoa, all of the credit card stealers, will be coming to XBL, to host "10th lobbys" but they need to "Recover your account first."

This is dumb, what if I don't have paypal/creditcard, so I'm screwed?

They'll probably do the same thing PSN does, instead of Microsoft Point cards, it'll just be cards with money value. (i.e. 1600 = $20, 800 = $10)

Interesting, not a fan of this possible move.

What will become of those with points on their accounts?

So what they're basically saying is that if you want to buy stuff you're going to have to have your credit/bank card details on your account permanently?

Bad. ****. Idea.

this probably has something to do with retailers charging microsoft to sell the points
