Rumour: Microsoft Points to be scrapped by end of 2012

4.3
The Microsoft’s Points system, used for Xbox Live Marketplace and other Microsoft marketplaces, is set to be abolished by the end of the year, according to a Inside Mobile Apps report. The site reckons that local, real-world currency will replace points. Microsoft only uses real-life money for when games are bought from Games on Demand, although the option is available to also buy them with Microsoft Points.

Microsoft Points has been around the release of Xbox 360 in 2005, and has also been around for other storefronts including Zune Marketplace, Games for Windows Live and Windows Phone 7.

Why change is they have had it for 7 years?

All they are doing is making $$/other currency cards instead of MSP. PSN does that with $20 cards, etc. You won't need a credit card!

CyanogenMod7 You guys DO realize that it's just gonna change from ms points to money, like the playstation currency. You will still be able to buy the little cards at gamestop and stuff, except its gonna show money instead of msp

I agree with this. This is the only thing that would make sense. I hate having to do currency conversions in my head every time I want to buy something from the xbox marketplace lol

They wouldn't do this. Unless they created cards worth money on Xbox like a $20.00 card instead of 1600 msp.

thank god. I feel like im spending tokens from chuck e cheese when using MSP
go real money!

They will lose money if they do this, kids don't have credit cards and parents aren't always willing to use their cards.

A wide majority of people don't pay with a credit card, and will most likely never apply the card to an Xbox account. Bad marketing move MS.
