Your next game console could be made by Google

4.4
No one brings up Google when speculating about another technology company following Microsoft into the console gaming world. Google is not just a search engine its on a quest to take over the technology world. They’re in direct competition with Apple (Android OS), Facebook (Google+), Microsoft (Google search engine, Chrome, Android OS, Google Docs, etc.) as well as many other companies. Google has also recently acquired Motorola Mobility, expanding their mobile phone, Android bases and even possibly reviving GoogleTV. Is gaming next on their agenda?

The Android marketplace has taking the mobile market by storm and a large portion of sales in the marketplace is for the sale of mobile games. Many games are either coming out on both iOS and Android, or coming to Android first. While mobile gaming is blowing up like the bomb, console gaming is overall gaining in popularity (apparently more popular then porn?). Console gaming has gone mainstream, and long past are the days when gaming was just for “nerds.” This is a market Google has to take some interest in, to some degree. After all, one of their direct competitors Microsoft is the “King of the Hill” in console gaming at the present time

Saying all this, it seems Google has started taking a step into gaming with their new technology, dubbed “Native Client”, Google can run native code directly from your browser, allowing developers access to the systems hardware itself in order to deliver high-end games. It’s a pretty awesome feature, which could potentially have an impact on the release of games as we know it. Being able to release a game through Google would mean less piracy and a secure connection for everyone. Google has plans to add support for controllers and gamepads in the future with a lag free multiplayer connection. This could be the beginning for console quality gaming directly through your browser and more.

Could it be a legitimate concern of the other companies to have another company enter the gaming fold? Especially a company who certainly is in an expansive mindset, and has proven in the past that they are not afraid to take some risks in order to reach out to new markets. Google definitely has the money, its just a question if they have the will. Yes they may be a bit late coming into the gaming market but i guess it better late then never – is it time for Google to strike and expand their empire into video game hardware and will you be playing on a google console in the coming years?

If they do decide to make something, I will never be able to take them seriously.

They should just stick to what they know, imo.

qwaszx2211 They are going to make a 3d virtual game system that you wear. It's going to be called the "Goggle".

This.

Even if Google does bring in a new console. It'd be EXTREMELY hard to make the transition from Xbox/PS3 to Google. They may get lucky though, if they release in accordance with the new 3rd gen consoles that are being speculated to release in a few years.
