PS5 Reported To Have Shipped 3.4 Million Units In Its First 4 Weeks

4.1
Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world, both Sony and Microsoft managed to launch a new generation of consoles. Both seem to have been a success, too, with Sony’s PS5 setting new records for various regions. Now we have, potentially, a new set of numbers to give a broad idea of what the system sold as well as what the expectations are for next year.

Digitimes reported that the PS5 shipped 3.4 million units in the first 4 weeks of its release. This would put it at the highest ever ship rate for a PlayStation console. Sony is also looking at shipping between 16-18 million for 2021 with more units being held for the Asian region starting next month, which many reported to being even more supply chained than other regions (thanks to Twitter user Dr. Serkan Toto for providing the information, which you can see below).

As the good Doctor says, though, this is Digitimes and in the past some have disputed their hardware numbers, and with no official numbers from Sony themselves, we’ll have to file this under rumor for the time being. That said, nothing here seems outrageous with doubts mainly coming because of possible stock issues. There have been some conflicting reports out there about how severe those issues were, but it was obvious stock was limited regardless of the region.
