Microsoft has added a warning to its Cyberpunk 2077 store page

Microsoft has added a performance warning to its Xbox store page for Cyberpunk 2077, following a turbulent week for the much-anticipated open-world game.

Since Friday evening, the Microsoft Store page has included a prominent notice warning that “users may experience performance issues when playing this game on Xbox One consoles until this game is updated.”

The highly anticipated RPG released on December 10 following three delays. While the PC version was largely well received in spite of numerous bugs, the game’s performance on last-gen consoles has been heavily criticised by fans and the media.

Cyberpunk 2077’s troubled launch has resulted in CD Projekt shares tumbling over the past week and wiping over $1 billion off the wealth of the company’s founders.

On Friday, Microsoft announced it was expanding its refund policy to offer refunds to all users who purchased a digital version of Cyberpunk 2077.

The decision came after Sony Interactive Entertainment pulled Cyberpunk 2077 entirely from the PlayStation Store and said it would offer a full refund for all customers who purchased the game.

The same day, CD Projekt said it would refund those who bought a physical version of Cyberpunk “out of our own pocket if necessary”.

Earlier this week, the company pledged to improve the overall experience via future updates, but also said customers not wanting to keep the game could opt for a refund.

An update released on Saturday introduced over 60 fixes to both console and PC versions of Cyberpunk, including for quest bugs, crashes and more.

Large patches will follow in January and February which “should fix the most prominent problems gamers are facing on last-gen consoles” and bring those versions of the game closer to the PC experience.

Speaking to investors this week, CD Projekt’s joint-CEO Adam Kiciński apologised for the console issues and said that the company hoped to rebuild the trust of its fanbase.

“After 3 delays, we as the Management Board were too focused on releasing the game,” he said. “We underestimated the scale and complexity of the issues, we ignored the signals about the need for additional time to refine the game on the base last-gen consoles.

“It was the wrong approach and against our business philosophy. On top of that, during the campaign, we showed the game mostly on PCs. This caused the loss of gamers’ trust and the reputation that we’ve been building through a big part of our lives.

“That’s why our first steps are solely focused on regaining those two things. We are concentrated on fixing Cyberpunk on last-gen consoles… We will do everything possible to prove that we stick to our values. We truly hope that our efforts will let us rebuild the trust we have lost.”

I think this is better than just removing the game as a whole.

At least they didn't take it off the store like PSN did I suppose.
