Cyberpunk 2077 Delay Said to be Due to Optimization Issues

4.3
Cyberpunk 2077 is said to be doing well on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, but PS4 and Xbox One versions seem to be a different story.
CD Projekt Red made the somewhat surprising decision yesterday to delay Cyberpunk 2077 by another three weeks after the developer said that the project still hadn’t reached its high bar for overall quality. Based on some new comments that have come about in the aftermath of the delay, it seems as though we now know more of the reason behind what is presently causing problems.

In a press conference that was held by CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski recently, the head of the company explained that the reason for the delay seems to involve the current generation versions of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One. Kicinski said that the game is “ready and plays well” on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, but the current-gen versions are a different story.

As for the new release date itself, Kicinski stressed that this will be the final date for the game, annotating that they are “firm” on it. He also said that the previous November 19 launch date was absolutely possible to make, but the added development time will give the studio ample time to fix any lingering issues. “The decision was not easy but we know there is just one release and the first impression is crucial,” Kicinski said. “Better initial reaction to the game always works in favor of more sales. That is why we are delaying, we don’t have to but having this extra time gives us more certainty that everything will be in the game when we release.”

The saga of Cyberpunk 2077 and its many release dates has definitely been one of the standout stories to follow in 2020. While the game will be arriving much later than originally anticipated, my thoughts throughout this ongoing situation definitely are with the team at CDPR who are still actively working on the game. The fact that Cyberpunk’s date has shifted around three times this year, in my opinion, shows that this game has been poorly managed, to say the least. Even though the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic surely played a part in the reasoning behind why the title has been pushed back so many times, those in charge at the studio should’ve had more foresight to not attach numerous release dates to the game unless they knew with certainty that those dates could be met.

Either way, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on December 10 and will be compatible on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Stadia. Let’s hope that it doesn’t end up being moved to 2021.

Sucks that we have to wait but I think it will be well worth it

Exactly like I said on the other article, current gen consoles are just terrible as much as people like to disagree. Games need to move on from current gen, it's just a shame they revealed this game long ago.
