Borderlands 3’s PS5 and Xbox Series X updates will arrive at launch

Gearbox has confirmed that Borderlands 3’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S updates will be available when the next-gen consoles launch next month.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the loot shooter will support 4K and 60FPS, while all next-gen versions will include a new three and four player split-screen mode.

A new two-player vertical split-screen mode will also be made available for current and next-gen consoles.

All add-on content and saves will transition to the next-gen console versions, and users will be able to upgrade to the next-gen version within the same console family at no additional cost.

Additionally, Gearbox has confirmed that cross-platform play will be added in 2021 and that additional paid DLC is coming later this year, which will include an extra skill tree for each Vault Hunter.

Xbox Series X/S launch globally on November 10. The PlayStation 5 release date is November 12 in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The rest of the world will get the console a week later on November 19.

Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford recently said he thinks the leap to PS5 and Xbox Series X will be the biggest in the history of the console market. While he doesn’t expect this to be evident in next-gen launch titles, he forecast the leap will prove to be even greater than the jump from 2D to 3D was.
