Sony reveals a small list of PS4 games not playable on PS5

Sony has revealed a small list of PlayStation 4 games which are not playable on PlayStation 5.

In a newly-published backward compatibility section of the PlayStation support website, 10 games are listed as only playable on PS4.

They are DWVR, Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One, TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2, Just Deal With It!, Shadow Complex Remastered, Robinson: The Journey, We Sing, Hitman Go: Definitive Edition, Shadwen, and Joe’s Diner.

While Sony says “the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 games are playable on PS5 consoles,” it notes that “some functionalities that were available on the PS4 console may not be available on PS5 consoles” and “some PS4 games may exhibit errors or unexpected behavior” when played on the next-gen system.

It advises users to test the games on PS5 before purchasing any add-on content, in case of undesirable results.

“Select PS4 games will benefit from the PS5 console’s Game Boost, which may make PS4 games run with a higher or smoother frame rate,” it adds.

While PS5 games are not compatible with the DualShock 4 controller, supported PS4 games will be playable using DualShock 4, PS5’s DualSense controller, and officially licensed third-party controllers.

Speciality peripherals, the PS Move Motion Controller and the PS VR Aim Controller will also work with supported games on PS5 consoles.

Players will be able to transfer digital games and saved data from a PS4 console to a PS5 console using WiFi data transfer, the support website says. PS5 owners will also be able to access PS4 games directly from an extended storage drive, or via a PS4 disc.

Sony recently confirmed that PS5 won’t be backward compatible with PS1, PS2 or PS3 games.

While PS5 players won’t be able to play their existing library of PS1, PS2 or PS3 games on the new console, legacy software will be playable with a PlayStation Now subscription.

PlayStation Now’s software library currently includes more than 300 PS4 titles which can be downloaded and played on a PS4 console, and over 700 PS2, PS3 and PS4 games streamable to PS4 or PC.

Rival next-gen consoles Xbox Series X/S will be backward compatible with existing Xbox One games and accessories, including backward compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles, which will “look and play better than ever before”, according to Microsoft.
