Battlefield 3: 8 Million Played the Beta & Pre-orders Exceed 2 Million

With Battlefield 3's open beta now over with, DICE has shared a few stats from the public playtest. Over 8 million players previewed the game's Metro map, and EA has preorders for the final game already exceeding 2 million. DICE puts a few of the bigger numbers into context below: did you know that the number of people stabbed to death in the beta is equivalent to the population of Shanghai? What a morbid thought. 47 billion shots were fired in the beta, which as DICE points out would generate enough shell casings to build just shy of 4000 Flanker jets. Ever helpful, the dev also reminds readers that none of those jets would fly, because hello, you can't build a fighter plane out of shell casings. The beta's Rush mode focused on destroying M-Com stations, an objective completed successfully around 21 million times – a number equivalent to Twitter's entire active userbase. DICE's graphic breaks down a few more BF3 figures.

No, Thank YOU. Forgot to put when my birthday was. October 29th. So I'll be 17 BEFORE MW3 releases, therefore allowing me to play the game. Roflmao.

Regulation BF3 is WAY more realistic than any other cod game i've played. And i don't think cod will really change to be like that. And after playing the BF3 beta it seems like the better game. Who cares about who has more pre orders? Just have fun playing a game, and don't complain about which game is gonna be better. As of right now, you can't really say MW3 is better unless you've played it. and there was no beta. BF3 had a very successful beta and both games will be good.

The list goes on, over 80 awards. MW3, last time I checked, has very little.

The last few Call of Duty games have been lacking quality. It seems to me Call of Duty 4 was the last of quality Call of Duty games.

But you never know, maybe I'm wrong.

I don't recall those being the full games?

As for it being anywhere near beating it in sales, that isn't going to happen, beta players means nothing, practically all my friends played it and 2-3/30 are buying it.

Call of Duty will always be the biggest seller because everyone knows it and even the smallest of kids can play it and have fun without it being too gorey, atleast online.


Sales don't decide the quality of the game.

As for the awards, both games put forth the best they had at that time, and Battlefield won.

For now that's the only way we have to measure their quality. When both games are released people can delve deeper and make a true verdict on which is better.

COTD-PaP-3arc lol two million pre orders and theyre happy? theyre probably sh**ing their pants right now hoping to get more pre orders before release. they wanted to beat out mw3, pfft theyre way behind they tried bashing mw3 and infinity ward and sledgehammer kept their cool and it paid off. MW3 FTW bf3 u dont even deserve capitals.
They dont expect to outsell Cod this year, and they would be stupid if they did. However the fact that the game has over 10x pre-orders since bfbc2 and 24x Battlefield 2 is a great step forward for Battlefield. I do agree though that EA, not DICE, has been acting like complete douches about the MW3 vs BF3 thing
