Horizon Zero Dawn gets first PC patch to address some issues

4.1
The first post-launch patch for the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn is here.

Guerrilla Games has just rolled out a new update for Horizon Zero Dawn on PC, one week after the game’s release.

The PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn has, to say the very least, been disappointing. From inexplicable performance problems on powerful systems, to weird bugs and omissions, the port has been frustrating many of those who chose to jump in at launch. Guerrilla Games has since confirmed it is aware of all reports, and today’s patch is the first of many.

Patch 1.01, available now on Steam and the Epic Games Store, doesn’t actually bring that many fixes. It does, however, fix the bug that prevented Concentration (slow-mo) from activating for some players, despite having the skill. There’s also a crash fix to do with the Steam UI.

Outside of that, the rest of the fixes are for various “backend issues” as well as a video corruption bug that occurred on certain system configurations. See the full change log below.

Crash/hang fixes
Fixed an issue where the game would crash if the SteamUI didn’t initialize properly on startup.

Functionality fixes
Fixed an issue where Concentration and other slowdown mechanics wouldn’t work for everyone.
Fixed an issue where Windows/Steam profile names containing special characters would prevent some players from saving the game. We are still investigating other saved game issues as well.
Fixed an issue where Windows/Steam profile names containing special characters would prevent some players from saving screenshots in Photo Mode.

Other fixes
Added improved diagnostic data collection when submitting a crash report.
Fixed several backend issues.
Fixed a video corruption issue for specific hardware. We’re continuing to look at other hardware configurations as well.

More interesting than the patch notes themselves is the new list of known issues, which joins the existing set of known issues Guerrilla outlined at launch.

The updated list includes 4K resolution problems, broken anisotropic filtering, GPU-caused stutters and other assorted performance issues on specific GPUs. Here are the new items on the list.

Some players are experiencing startup crashes. Patch 1.01 fixes a few, but not all, of these crashes.

Some players are experiencing GPU-related hangs during gameplay. The improved diagnostic data collection added in Patch 1.01 is aimed at making it easier to track these down.

Some players are experiencing graphical settings issues, such as anisotropic filtering not working, 4K not displaying correctly, or HDR not working correctly.

Some players are experiencing performance issues on specific GPUs or hardware combinations.

“This is a small initial patch; please know that we are already working on the next one – thanks for your patience and understanding!” said Guerrilla, promising another patch next week
