PlayStation 5 Dashboard Reveal Coming Soon

3.6
At the PlayStation 5 reveal event, Sony showcased a lot of new games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, and more. They also revealed the first look at two versions of the PlayStation 5 console itself. But, there was also a very short glimpse at what may have been how the PlayStation 5 dashboard operates. Recently, the VP of UX Design at PlayStation talked about the PlayStation 5 UI and hinted that we may see it soon.

Before the PlayStation 5 event, a new patent shared how the UI will work and how it will differ from the PlayStation 4. MacLaurin said that the new UI is a “very interesting evolution of the OS… A 100 percent overhaul of the PS4 UI and some very different new concepts. As it’s UI, it’s practical first, but it’s a whole new visual language and a complete rearchitecting of the user interface.”

In talking about the UI, MacLaurin also briefly talked about how PlayStation 5 custom hardware designs will be different than it was with the PlayStation 4. “This hardware is also customizable in ways previous gens weren’t. It’s clear we haven’t heard every detail about the PS5 hardware or software just yet.”

Ever since Sony started talking about the next generation with the WIRED articles, information has started to come outs slowly as they wind down what’s left with the PlayStation 4. First came news and information about the DualSense wireless controller and how they feel will change how players can play and interact with games. There have been numerous patents filed detailing how the PlayStation 5 and how next-generation gaming, in general, is looking to change how we play games. Then, earlier this year, Mark Cerny broke down the technical aspects and objectives that Sony is hoping to achieve with the PlayStation 5 and then we got a first look at what games everyone will be playing. At the end of the event, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said that more information and details will be revealed leading up to the launch later this year.

I did see some possible leaks of the new interface, it looks pretty similar to PS4 which is a good thing as the PS4 interface was great.

Mario350 i dont understand There will be two different PlayStation 5 models to choose from at launch where one of them, dubbed as the digital edition, will forego a disc drive.

so does that mean the digital version will have a disc drive but will be unable to play ps4 disks or what? you guys kinda worded the thing wrong id its a big no disc drive bit confusing just letting ya know.

anyways i hope they talk about if were gonna need to install the games again(the feature no one likes because ps3 and 360 didnt need to do it) theres physically no reason for a disc or disc drives if thats still the case(i love physical games but i rather be able to play right away instead of waiting till finished downloading, thats what digital games are for if you wanna wait all day to play).

but yeah still confused about the whole digital edition will have a disc drive thing, like from what i saw it doesnt have anywhere for cds

Xbox has the same for Xbox One.
Digital only - no disc required. Doesn't stop you from playing any games as all disc games can be purchased via the Xbox store. Then they have the standard disc edition.

Surely digital edition is download only, so if you have good internet ect, you would just get digital version I suppose?

Can't wait for the reveal!
