Dirt 5 Will Run at 120 FPS on Xbox Series X, Supporting 4K Resolution

Codemasters' Technical Director explains how they've used the power within Xbox Series X to deliver impressive performance in Dirt 5.

Codemasters officially revealed Dirt 5 during Microsoft’s Inside Xbox event earlier in May. As a cross-gen title, Dirt 5 is supposed to use every last bit of power within the next-gen consoles. During a recent interview with Xbox Wire, the technical director behind the game has explained some of the key features of Dirt 5 that couldn’t be achieved without the next-gen hardware of Xbox Series X.

According to David Springate, the Zen 2 processors in Xbox Series X is the most impressive part of this next-gen console for him as it’s a very important place in the hardware which enables GPU to use its power in the best way possible. “It would be no good if you had a GPU that can render beautiful visuals at 4K at 120fps if you don’t have a CPU that can generate enough frame data to render that quickly on the GPU,” says Springate. He believes that with powerful processors developers will be able to improve the physics and lower the latency input.

Thanks to Xbox Series X’s SSD, Dirt 5 will be a more fluent experience with no loading screens for booting up the races and other stuff in the game. Springate says the SSD in Xbox Series X is more than a PC SSD, and it benefits both developers and players.

With all the incredible capabilities of Xbox Series X in case of hardware, Dirt 5 will be using this powerhouse to bring the most impressive technical performance with 4K resolution and 120 frames per second.

Later on, Springate praised Microsoft’s plan in launching Game Development Kit toolset before sending out Xbox Series X dev kits, which made it available for studios to learn how to work with the new consoles before getting the hardware. This has saved a lot of time for Codemasters in developing Dirt 5 for Xbox Series X.

Dirt 5 is set to be launched in October 2020 for Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Stadia, and PC.
