Valorant Will Toggle Blood Off In Esports Events

4.7
Valorant has already caught on in popularity to a much greater degree than some would have expected- and given its very nature as a competitive first person shooter with shades of both Overwatch and Counter-Strike, it’s clear that this is going to be big in the esports space. Certainly, that’s something Riot Games are emphasizing already.

In fact, to ensure complete accessibility to the game for larger audiences during esports events, the game’s community competition guidelines dictate that all blood in the game must be toggled off – for which there is an in-game option – during events. That’s significant, because Valorant can be a pretty bloody game at times.

“Ultimately, we want our esport to be as accessible as possible, and that includes ensuring it is also as wide-reaching as possible,” said Whalen Rozelle, Riot’s senior director of esports (via IGN). “By turning off blood, we allow more sponsors and distributors to join the ecosystem, ultimately creating more accessibility and stability for everyone.”

“There are major brands that simply won’t sponsor games that have blood or real-world violence,” added esports analyst Manny Anekal. “Limiting blood for Valorant esports events is a smart business move.”

Valorant is currently in closed beta for PC, and will launch in full for the platform later this year. The developers are also open to bringing the game to other platforms, but remain focused on PC for now.

Gossip They should of just not put blood in the game to begin with, maybe just take it out completely?

It's only to make it child friendly for esport viewers, people who enjoy the bloody side of the game can keep it on when they play.

Int Kinda makes sense but at the same time it kinda doesn't LOL!

In Esports I think they blood may have to be turned off in order for it to be publicly viewed? I don't know for sure but I don't get why else they would have to turn this off.

I'm assuming they will do that either for 2 situations - making the game run better/more frames or to have younger people be able to watch the tournaments?

Has to be for the younger people to be able to watch/compete. I don't think they want any red flags to pop up that would take away from their players/viewers. Everyone should be able to compete like how fortnite was.

Disabling the blood effect isn't a bad thing for a game, doesn't change my mood playing the game at all. The game is still playable and fun but I understand why Valorant has made that change.

vivador That's not gonna be any fun , but oh well ?

I don't know about you but I don't really notice it. For example in DBZ Kakarot they disabled blood and the game was still fantastic.

OGTrey079 Imagine making a game that involves killing people with guns just to disable blood. Ain't that something.

I don't think it really matters tbh. I don't even remember seeing the blood when I was playing. I think games just do it to bring in more traffic.
