Nintendo Wii Repair Support Ending in March 2020

Nintendo Japan has announced it will end all repair support for Wii, 13 years after it first released the console.

In a statement posted on its website, Nintendo said that because it is becoming difficult to secure the necessary parts, all repairs will be closed after March 31, 2020.

“Thank you very much for your patronage of our products,” it said.

Ushering in an era of motion controls, Nintendo Wii launched in 2006 and went on to sell over 100 million units — a record for a Nintendo home console.

Publisher Ubisoft released what it called “the last game on Wii” in 2019, Just Dance 2020.

The Just Dance series debuted exclusively on Wii in 2009 and Nintendo’s console has played home to every instalment of the annual series to date.

Speaking about the publisher’s ongoing support for the platform, Ubisoft EMEA executive director Alain Corre told The Telegraph: “I think we are the last soldier standing! We are the last game on the Wii and we are happy about that as there still a lot of fans wanting to play on it.

“Now we see they are going to the Switch and at the end of the year that Just Dance 2020 will be one of the best games on the Switch because there are more and more families playing on it, as it was in the Wii times.”
