Blu-ray Coming To Xbox 360 - Rumor

4.7
According to the rumor section of the August 2011 edition of the Xbox 360 Mag Italy, Microsoft is supposedly gearing up to release an external Blu-ray drive for their highly successful Xbox 360 console.
If proven to be factually correct, the enticing addition of a Blu-ray drive could be a direct measure to counter the PS3′s rising momentum – following the highly publicized price cut announced by Sony at Gamescom 2011. An interesting selection of rumors have surfaced over the years relating to the possible introduction of an add-on Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360, with SmartHouse previously reporting that Microsoft intended to release both an external Blu-ray drive and also a fully-fledged, Blu-ray-enabled console.
“Insiders at Microsoft in the USA have told SmartHouse that Microsoft has already configured a standalone Blu-ray player that can be connected into an Xbox 360 and that subject to internal marketing and sales approvals the model could be on sale within 3 months,” stated Smarthouse back in 2008.

The magazine did not elaborate on whether the rumored Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive would be utilized solely for the viewing of high definition movies, or whether the drive would usher in the availability of an increase in disc space for gaming.
The Blu-ray drive will most likely be a simple add-on for the console, as the idea of segmenting the user-base is absolutely insane to say the least.

iAmMasterF seems like m$ are not liking the increase of ps3 sales... the reason people are picking 360 over ps3 is because it has:

blu ray
3d blu ray
3d gaming
free online
good rep for hardware reliability
it's a more powerful system (well just the cell processor)

perfect for home entertainment systems so it appears better to a wider audience.

true gamers will pick 360 because of it's xbl service, exclusives like gears & halo.

having said that, now call of duty elite will cost me 35 a year i may just switch to ps3 instead of paying 30 a year for xbl. the only 360 exclusive i like is gears of war... damn if that was multiplatform i wouldnt have a 360 :D

Umm sorry but BF3 would be 50FPS 720p if ps3's VG would not fail also all the CoD's would be HD too if ps3's processor could take it >_>

Lol, the only good thing about blueray on a console should be the fact the disks can store up to 25GB instead of 8.5 GB. If I wanna watch blueray movies, I'll use my blueray player.. not my GAMING console -_-

3OH3 It's not the blu-ray that's giving the ps3 momentum... It the fact that everyone that gets banned from xbox live (or gets their console banned) ends up turning to Sony and the ps3. I know for a fact that if I get banned I'm switching and selling all of my xbox stuff so I assume others would think the same.

believe it or not, not every1 is a modder/hacker/pirate on xbox
