Microsoft bans Xbox Live users who illegally downloaded content

4.8
Microsoft's Xbox Live online service for its Xbox 360 console lets its users download content like full games, movies, TV shows and more. But it looks like some of its users have tried to get some of that content illegally. As first reported by Eurogamer, Microsoft recently posted up a message on the official Xbox.com message boards informing Xbox Live users that some of its customers have been banned from using the service for such activity.

The message board post from Microsoft states that during " ... a recent investigation, we have discovered users who illegitimately accessed Xbox LIVE Marketplace downloadable content. Our investigation reveals that this access was intentional and not accidental, constituting a blatant violation of the Terms of Use for the service." Microsoft did not go into details about how many people were involved nor the types of content they had taken from the Xbox Live Marketplace. It added, "Please know that we are being very careful regarding these suspensions, and have clear evidence regarding each account issued a permanent suspension from the service. We apologize for any frustration or confusion resulting from our inability to share individual details, and thank you all for your cooperation in this matter."

Eurogamer.net reports that some Xbox Live uses have posted up messages on the Xbox.com forums that claim they are innocent of the allegations made against them by Microsoft. They also confirm that they have been banned from using Xbox Live until December 31, 9999 (no, that's not a typo). Microsoft did not go into any details on how these Xbox Live users illegally downloaded the content.

haha this is pretty old. I still upload nonjtag content tho. If people just play it on a silver account they should be fine. Can't play online but whatever you can still play some fun single player games and tings like split screen with bots on black ops

How did you get your Gold back? I got banned from this and I'd really like to have my Gold back for my new account.

Plus, I don't really know what I did to get banned in the first place, but MS isn't telling anyone what we did.

kgb_immortal lmao wow so many innocent people are going to get banned, after all people do go over to friends houses and they end up playing arcade games on a recovered account so microsoft is going to think they stole stuff

no they can tell the difference between that and the method known as "non-jtag"
so the people that get banned for marketplace theft deserve it

Buncez It really isn't hard to find the way to illegally download stuff off the Marketplace it is your own fault for allowing it. Pushing the price from 800 to 1200 points for most marketplace downloads? Stop being greedy when the average person gets one up on you, banning them indefinatly. Just block it and then move along saying you learn from mistakes...

Greedy tw*ts
i agree, this is probably how their losing all their users. they prob go to ps3

That explains why there have been 3 million new PSN users lately, its Microsoft at it again, PRO TIP if you're reading this Microsoft, fire Stepto, his the one in charge of the team that hands out bans on Xbox Live, and he has this zero tolerance nonsense that will end up killing Xbox, and making sure PS3 and PS4 will soon dominate.
