Geoff Keighley Hopes His Legacy is Greater than a Meme

4.1
During a recent Reddit AMA, Geoff Keighley discussed the infamous meme, hoping his legacy is more than just being surrounded by Doritos and Mountain Dew.

Geoff Keighley is known for a lot of things. More recently, he is known for producing and hosting The Game Awards. However, a few years back, he was known for one of video games’ most notorious memes: the Dorito Pope. In a recent AMA, Keighley has finally divulged his take on the infamous photo with an answer you probably expected.

During the AMA on Reddit, user deltakiral asked, “How does the photo of you with Doritos and Mountain Dew make you feel?” Keighley responded, “To be honest, it’s not really something I think about much anymore. I would hope my legacy is more than that photo, but if that’s the meme I am remembered for then so be it!” If you aren’t sure what this photo is in reference to, you can find it below.

It’s not really a surprising answer, but at least Keighley is being a good sport about the whole thing. For context, the picture was taken from an interview the Canadian video game journalist did with LevelSave back in 2012 where he talks about a comic-con and Halo 4. However, it’s not what he is talking about, rather, what he is sitting next to that got people’s attention. The ridiculous amount of product placement basically made Keighley into a meme. One that has led to some memes you have probably seen going around the internet.

Keighley’s Reddit AMA shines a light on a number of topics, including how he got Reggie Fils-Aime, Shawn Layden, and Phil Spencer on stage at the Game Awards, and the Death Stranding nomination controversy. He also talked about how Resident Evil 3 was never planned for next week’s show despite the recent leak. In fact, he said nothing big has leaked from the show just yet.

This year’s Game Awards will air on December 12 at 5:30 PT with a two-hour runtime.
