Call of Duty could lose 20% market share this fall

4.4
EA is well aware that it is highly unlikely that Battlefield 3 outperform the Call of Duty juggernaut this fall. Earlier EA COO Peter Moore explained the companies strategy in launching so close to Call of Duty, and its all about market share. The company believes that this strategy to steal market share from the industry leader will put EA in a position to steal back the shooter crown in the coming years.

"It's less about being second place. This is about taking market share. This is really about a long-term strategy in what we think is a very important shooter segment that has driven over the last few years multiple billions of dollars of revenue into the industry,...If you look at last year, you might argue that Call of Duty took maybe 90 percent of the market share. We think we can knock that down to 70 percent this year. We don't have to outsell Call of Duty to have a very successful year. This is a long-term strategy to be a major player, if not ultimately a dominant player in this industry. But it starts this year."

shadow1 People are starting to realize why CoD is getting bad. Look at MW2. Remember those really dedicated servers and how good they are now? Like seriously I love hackers so much. I also love over powered weapons and explosives. Thats what made the game great! No...Jk. I hated it so much because it was too easy.

Now look at MW2 and then to BO. You can point out that the Famas is still overpowered. You can also see there is alot of camping and that knife lunge is still 600000000000000000000000 miles. And the lag is absolutly terrible. I can even find 1 game where the match starts and then blacks out and makes a new lobby. And with the dash boarding, its terrible. No other game has that problem.

Im not going to be shocked when CoD 9 will have 50% and then MW4 have 30% and then only 2% at Cod 10.

Nobody plays Badcompony 2. I admit it, CoD gets boring.. i tried BF2; its the worst 1st person shooter game. Homefront was better than Battlefield.. you mentioned lag... i bet BF3 will have enormous lag problems due to them having huge maps, jets and many vehicles, and like 60 people in one lobby.. ( correct me if im wrong about the 60 people in 1 lobby.. but i do know its a load of people vs each other. ) Idk.. im stickin with the infamous insanity CoD... im okay with it being the same.. cus it isnt the same. New guns, New perks, New Maps, New campaign. How can you guys troll on a new game saying its going to be the same? Theres campers in everytype of games, theres noobs, troll, haters, and laggers. But i get it.. the new trend now a days is to hate on the successful and thriving game series.

But these games are 2 whole different genre. Same as Gears of War and Halo. Battlefield is what the title says.. a huge field of battle. Tactical team based FPS. While CoD is sort of i could do this alone cus i have Marathon and my OP sub machine gun...

Battlefield has stolen the shooter sale from COD to me this year.

I_MAKE_IT_RAIN I dont think call of duty will loose any money in the process. Because sales are higher than black ops already and there has been little to no multiplayer footage compared to battlefield. Lets just see what happens when cod xp launches multiplayer this year.
thanks for typing out what i was about to say lol

SERIOUSLY battlefield games are not that good...

Peter should really stop running his mouth before he gets really owned by the bf3 & mw3 sales chart.

Taylor-Swift Call of duty still will win they got more players and people enjoyed MW2 and would want a sequel. They may lose a little to battlefield but not much

Like they said they aren't trying to win them out in sales they are trying to take some of the market share which they will achieve in taking some of the market share away from call of duty this year.

Having different gameplay doesn't make them in a different genre they are both in the FPS genre and will always compete with ALL FPS games
