Donald Trump Is Now on Twitch but with No Video Games in Sight

3.6
Donald Trump, President of the United States of America launched his official Twitch channel yesterday and ran his first broadcast at 8PM EST. But no, it wasn’t to stream himself playing a video game, or eating soup.

Earlier this year we saw Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, the senator from Vermont launch his own Twitch channel. Since launching he has 63 broadcasts available to view on his channel with a following of 88,817 at the time of writing. His broadcasts as a whole have amassed 362,937 views in total.

Donald Trump appears to be getting in on the platform now.

Twitch, best-known for its video game streaming content also allows users to stream under different categories, such as “Just Chatting”, “Talk Shows & Podcasts”, “Music and Performing Arts”, and even “ASMR”. This appears to have opened up an avenue where politicians are now using the platform to reach much larger audiences for their events.

In last night’s case, Donald Trump streamed his rally that took place in Minneapolis, MN and ran for 1 hour 45 minutes. It was streamed under the category “Special Events” and hit 29,721 views and the President’s follower count has ramped up to 41,575.

The chat was also rather active but was set so that only followers to the account can take part in the chat. It’s unclear if we’ll ever see the President streaming himself playing a video game, but it would certainly add to the surrealism and the changing landscape of Twitch.
