With the GameStop Managers Conference underway, it’s being reported that HD remasters of The Lion King and Aladdin are launching later this year.
The news made its way online thanks to Twitter user @Wolverinefactor who reported on it. According to his Twitter thread, the remasters will include the original SNES and Sega Genesis versions of the games alongside the original soundtracks. Additionally, the HD collection will be available for preorder tomorrow.

Following @Wolverinefactor, GameXplain received an off-screen image which shows the collection’s box art. The collection will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch sometime in October. As GameXplain points out in their video, it’s unclear how much of a remaster it’ll be. Gematsu also chimed in by mentioning the remasters will be in 1080p resolution and include the ability to fast-forward through levels. Additionally, a feature will be added which has the game showing the player how to clear stages.
Aladdin released in 1993 on the Sega Genesis while The Lion King released in 1994 on the SNES. With the success of the live-action versions of both films, which grossed over a billion dollars each this year, the timing couldn’t be any more perfect.
The HD remasters of The Lion King and Aladdin launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch sometime this fall. As more news comes out about the remastered collection, we’ll be sure to let you know.
