Rage Xbox 360 Install to Devour 22GB of Space

4.5
Xbox 360 owners will need to secure a sizeable chunk of hard drive space to experience the full extent of id Software's Rage. This weekend, studio head John Carmack told Quakecon 2011 attendees that a complete installation of the upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter will require upwards of 22GB of HDD room, and there will be no partial fixes.

“On the 360 we don’t have a partial install option; it’s all or nothing, which is kind of unfortunate,” admitted Carmack, explaining, “It means you have to install 21 to 22GB of stuff which takes a long time, but if you’ve got it and you play it on the 360 that’s the way to go.”

“Once you get everything from memory that works pretty good, but if you’re coming straight from the hard drive then the first time you walk into everything from the DVD or from the Blu-ray – even worse in terms of total latency time – you listen to that Blu-ray churning around as its pulling everything in,” he added.

Rage will arrive for the Xbox 360 on three discs; two for the solo campaign, and another for the multiplayer. It's unclear if the single Blu-ray PS3 version will have a similar install option when it arrives alongside its PC and Xbox 360 editions on October 4th in North America, and October 7th in the UK. TauntzE Because you have to install every game you own right?
Just play it off the disc. It's not that hard to keep one clean.

It's more to do with the fact that your Xbox would be working overtime to read the disc if it were not installed, thus making noise and in some cases the long period of spinning a disc at full speed can damage it.

I've always agreed that installed games run better no mater how much of a inconvenience it is to install.
