While Sony didn’t have anything to say this past week at E3 about the status of its upcoming next-gen console of some of the many first-party titles that it still has left to release on PS4, it seems as though a potential release window for Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II has now potentially been divulged.
Speaking to Critical Role in a new interview, Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie in The Last of Us Part II, was asked just when the game would finally be arriving. Upon being asked the question, Johnson began to say, “I believe it’s coming out in Fe-” before being cut off by the interviewer. You can see the brief clip in the video below.
Even though Johnson never officially confirmed that February is the exact window in which the game will be releasing, it seems quite obvious what she was about to say. Furthermore, this February window lines up with a previous report from Kotaku’s Jason Schreier who stated that he had heard early 2020, and more specifically February 2020, was a likely time in which the game would launch.
It’s worth noting that this window could easily change at any given time, so you shouldn’t get too attached to the idea that The Last of Us Part II will indeed arrive next February. It’s likely that this is just the internal window that Naughty Dog is trying to hit at the moment. However, development timelines are always changing every day so this internal estimation could move at any point.
Still, the fact that signs are all starting to point towards a more specific release window means that we could be hearing an official word from Sony regarding The Last of Us Part II’s release date sooner than we think. Until that time, all we currently know is that the game is planned to arrive exclusively for PS4 whenever it does drop.
