Report: Xbox Wanted To Bring Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PS4

3.9
According to a new report, Microsoft was once looking into bringing Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PS4, and may still be. The report comes way of former IGN PlayStation journalist, Colin Moriarty, during a recent episode of Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast. According to Moriarty, Microsoft was once looking at bringing the collection of Master Chief games to PS4 a few years ago. Whether Microsoft is still interested in this, is unclear, but you'd assume they'd still be willing to play ball.

"I have it on good authority that Master Chief Collection was being talked about on PS4 years ago. Like, I have that on great authority," said Moriarty while speaking to co-host Chris Ray Gunn.

Moriarty notes that he wouldn't be surprised if he saw Xbox games coming to PS5 in the next few years, pointing out that he doesn't think the Xbox brand is going anywhere, but it will eventually bring its games everywhere. And a few years ago, this would have been a wild suggestion, but now, seeing the moves Microsoft is making with Xbox, it's completely on the table. It's obvious Microsoft believes the future of gaming is software/services and not hardware. Of course, this would undermine any reason to own an Xbox over a PlayStation console, but the money lost in hardware sales could be easily made up in software sales.

Anyway, as always, take this with a grain of salt, like an unofficial report. That said, Moriarty has proved a reliable source in the past, especially when it comes to scoops involving PlayStation, which he religiously covered at IGN for many years.

As mentioned above, Moriarty doesn't note whether or not Microsoft is still interested in bringing the collection of games to PlayStation consoles, but at the very least it sounds like those discussions were had between Xbox and PlayStation. And something tells me they won't be the last discussions held between the two about the latter's games being on former's systems.

Anyway, as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think. Will Xbox ever publish its games on PlayStation?

Wouldn't make sense to leave out PS4.

THQ I really wish this would happen as a Xbox fan. Exclusives ruin the experiance for me, this would've been a huge step to having common ground and choosing the service and interface, rather than splitting people based upon what games each one has. I think exclusives ruin gaming

Would be fine with me as long as Xbox one gets ahold of god of war or last of us as I haven't been able to play either and really would love to.

I don't think it would be a good idea, we need to keep what exclusives we have.

I can see this being legit for how much the Xbox team seemed to want their stuff even on Nintendo. I have been with Xbox since Halo 2, and I'd be ok if they started fading out hardware and went with software. If they truly feel that it is better they go that route and have all their exclusives on everything, that would kind of be amazing. I could get a PlayStation and still play the Xbox exclusives while also playing PS exclusives. Xbox keeps saying they want the players to play wherever they want to, so I can totally believe this may be the route they want to go. I'm just curious as to how they will still exist like that. Exclusives are no longer exclusive, so they are third party, so what is the Xbox brand at that point other than a publisher? Do they keep the system that gives achievements on their games?

If xbox did that they wouldnt have many exclusive games left so i really hope this dont happen ps4 already got enough games lol

I mean, I guess I could see it but I hope that NEVER happens

dont trust right there that title is bad news -> IGN anything ign is incorrect in this day and age and how stupid they are with the recent cod 4 reboot video they did saying it would be a boring game if its 10+ hours and what not, moral is dont trust ign but considering microsoft doesnt have first party games anymore they are either canned after announcement at e3 or really crappy.

but the halo on ps4 is a big big red flag right there which is a lie, now if it was nintendo and microsoft then it would be believable
